英语作为一门实用性很强的学科，英语的学习成果直接体现在信息的交流上。而信息的交流又集中表现为口语的运用。因此英语口语能力的提高既是英语学习的必然要求，也是社会、国家衡量人才合格与否的重要标准。
一般来说，衡量一个人英语口头表达能力主要看以下几个方面：
①语言的准确性（accuracy）和得体性（appropriateness）；
②语音（pronunciation）、语调（intonation）是否正确，口齿是否清楚；

2. 通过中西文化及语言的差异比较，设计日常口语会话情景，训练日常口语会话。 要熟练掌握日常口语会话，就必须掌握范围广阔的、基本得当的日常用语，如怎样表示想与陌生人交谈；怎样表示喜爱与厌恶，赞同与异议；怎样问路与指路等。自己设计情景，组织会话，并进行反复实践。在实践中仔细对比英语语言习惯、规律，文化背景等与汉语不同的地方，只有掌握了英语的语言文化才能更好地理解和运用英语。
3. 通过对日常生活题材的讨论，逐步提高语言的组织能力。 对日常生活题材的讨论是我们训练口语能力的一个重要阶段。在这个阶段中，我们通过参加多种形式的讨论活动与交流扩大知识面，促进思维能力及驾驭语言的能力。
4. 创造一个适当的语言环境。只有处于适当的语言环境中，语言的学习才能达到最好的效果。在平时的学习生活中，我们应寻找一切机会，有意识地锻炼自己听和说方面的能力，坚持和有决心学英语的同伴每天用英语对话二三十分钟，让对方指出自己常犯的错误。其次应多听英语磁带，英语广播，多参加英语沙龙和组织英语讨论，多接触英语读物，造成潜意识的“听”和“说”训练，有助于矫
